Vikings finish second at semi-state, head to state bowling meet

Although losing to Evansville Reitz in the Richmond semi-state championship match on Saturday, Feb. 13, the Huntington North High School boys' bowling team still qualified for the state meet Saturday, Feb. 20, at Anderson.

Coming in to the final match as the second seed, the Vikings were beaten by the top seed 492-438. The Vikes led after the first game, 243-215, but Reitz started the final game with nine strikes and finished with a 277 to seal the championship.

The Vikings defeated fourth seed Elwood, 382-327, to move on against Evansville.

The Vikings had a qualifying score of 2,978 to earn the second seed.

In the team competition, the Vikings shot a 1,016 in the first game, led by Adam Fruit's 215. Tyler Krepp had a 211, Connor Brown a 210, EJ Tackett a 202 and Tyler Neff, subbing for Tyler Carroll mid-game, a 178.

In the second game the Vikes rolled a 989, with Neff rolling a 228, Krepp a 215, Tackett a 204, Fruit a 180 and the combination of Gage Van Dine and Brown a 162.

In Baker the Vikings had the high five-game total of the tournament, rolling 198-207-160-176-232 for 973 and the second-seed total. Reitz ended with 3,136.

In individual play, sophomore Tyler Carroll finished sixth with a 623 series to advance to state.

Cooper's Sport Bowl in Anderson will host the state championship. Team competition begins at 9 a.m. and singles begins at 2 p.m.
