The Huntington North High School girls' bowling team continued its quest for a state title as it captured the Richmond semi-state crown on Saturday, Feb. 13.

The Lady Vikings defeated top seed Anderson in Baker competition in the final, 356-339, to take the semi-state crown and move on to the state championship at Anderson on Saturday, Feb. 20.

The Lady Vikings defeated Anderson in the first regular team competition, 900-886, but struggled in Baker play with their worst five game total of the season, 815, for a qualifying score of 2625, 64 pins behind the Lady Indians.

That put HNHS in the second stepladder game against third-seeded Frankton, which HNHS won 340-307 to advance to the rematch with Anderson in the final.

Tonya Crago led HNHS in the first team game with a 231, followed by Lesley Love with a 214, Elizabeth Bischoff 171, Ayla Yeiter 157 and Brittany Notestine 127. In the second team game Yeiter led with a 201, Crago had a 188, Hiner rolled 181, Bischoff 180 and Love 160.

In individual competition, three Lady Vikings advanced on to state for the best HNHS finish in the school's history. Freshman Audrey Hiner finished third, senior Crago finished fourth and Love, also a senior, finished sixth to all move on.

Hiner was the second seed in the finals with a 612 but lost in the semifinal match to Nykki Stone of Evansville Harrison, 188-185. Crago, the fourth seed, had earlier lost to Stone, 204-160.

Cooper's Sport Bowl in Anderson will host the state championship. Team competition begins at 9 a.m. and singles begins at 2 p.m.
