Viking netters fall to Warsaw

A win by Nick May was the lone bright spot for the Huntington North High School boys’ varsity tennis team in a 1-4 loss to host Warsaw on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

May, a senior, dispatched the Tigers’ Colton Lind in the first singles match, 6-1, 6-1, to help the Vikings, 1-1, avoid getting swept.

Huntington North’s Auden Eckert, a junior, battled with Andrew Gauger over the course of three sets at second singles, but ultimately fell short, 3-6, 7-5, 5-7.

Sophomore Adam Zahn rounded out singles play for the Vikes with an 0-6, 0-6 loss to David Homme in the third match.

In doubles action, the senior duo of Dane Eherenman and Brent Kreiger lost the second contest to Hayden Steger and Spencer Brilton, 3-6, 4-6, while junior Matt Karst and sophomore Clark Kitchen suffered a 2-6, 3-6 setback to Justin Stout and Ryan Wettschurack in the first match.

Huntington North’s junior varsity also lost, 2-5, to fall even at 1-1.

Garrett Smith and Matt York logged the two Viking victories, topping Kanton Waddle and Garrett Rodgers, respectively, by matching scores of 6-1.
