Lawson nets career-high 18 but Wildkats nip Vikings, 52-50

Levi Lawson scored a career-high 18 points but the Huntington North High School boys' basketball team got nipped by visiting Kokomo 52-50, on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

In a game that saw 12 lead changes and nine ties, neither team could put the other away. The Vikings got out to a 17-11 first quarter lead but saw Kokomo pull into the halftime lead at 28-27. The Wildkats opened their largest lead of the contest at 41-34 late in the third quarter, but the Vikings stormed back to cut the margin to 41-39 by the end of the frame.

Lawson, a 6-2 sophomore, did his best to keep HNHS in the hunt, hitting all seven of his field goal attempts, including his one attempt from 3-point range. He also matched Kevin Fisher for team-high in rebounding, with five boards.

Fisher finished with 12 points and Brock Gower added eight.

The Vikings, 5-12, shot 16 of 31 from the field, 51.6 percent, including hitting 5 of 13 from beyond the arc, for 38.5 percent.

Kokomo helped its own cause with a 15 of 16, 93.8 percent shooting night from the free-throw line. The Wildkats hit 17 of 38 from the field for 44.7 percent.
Cheyse Swain and TJ Weir led Kokomo with 13 points each.
