Eckert's career-best leads HNHS golfgirls to regional

Sophomore Amara Eckert's runner-up finish individually led the Huntington North High School girls' varsity golf team to a second place finish and regional berth at the Huntington North Golf Sectional on Monday, Sept. 19.

Eckert fired a career-best 83 over 18 holes to lead HNHS to a team score of 376, four shots back of champion Manchester and good enough for one of the three advancing spots.

The Lady Vikings will play at the East Noble Regional at Cobblestone on Saturday morning, Sept. 24.

Senior Ashley Hall was back-up to Eckert with a 96, followed by fellow senior Jessica Wiley with a 98 and sophomore Laura Ham with a 99.

Senior McKenzie Haneline was non-scorer with a 115.

Manchester won the match with a score of 372. Southwood, led by individual champion Dayna Dale, who fired a 79, shot a 394 for the final qualifying spot among the 10 teams competing.

Sophie Orrell of Oak Hill and Gabby Rahrer of Madison-Grant tied for third individually with scores of 89.

Northfield finished fourth as a team with a score of 416, and Eastbrook completed the top half of the finishers by placing fifth with a 426, winning a tie-breaker with Marion.
