Forester netmen have big high, low in doubleheader split

The Huntington University men's tennis team experienced a big high then a big low as it split a doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 24, sweeping Bethel, 9-0, but losing to Aquinas College, 1-8, at Klopfenstein Courts.

A double 6-0 whitewashing by No. 3 singles player Dawid Baranowski over Jose Morales highlighted the foresters' day against Bethel.

At first singles, Ignacio Poncio defeated Jacob Marci, 7-6, 6-1, and Rodrigo Manzo at second singles took a 6-1, 6-1 win over Luke Prude. Luke Buttermore at No. 4 singles defeated Matt Kempf, 6-3, 6-0; Marian Echevarria at fifth singles topped Brad Foster, 6-2, 6-1; and Jacob Shelton at No. 6 downed Sid Peterson, 6-3, 6-2.

At first doubles, Poncio and Echevarria dumped Marci and Kempf, 8-2; Manzo and Giovanni Martinez defeated Foster and Prude, 8-2; and Baranowski and Buttermore beat Morales and Brian Shembarger, 8-2.

The Foresters, 4-5, had a short break before taking on Aquinas, but only Manzo at No. 2 singles could replicate his earlier win, defeating Chase Perry, 7-6, 6-3.

Poncio at first singles fell to Gunnar Perry, 7-5, 2-6 (9-11); Buttermore at No. 3 singles lost to Willl Buurma, 2-6, 1-6; Echevarria at fourth lost to Kilian Pasantes, 4-6, 6-7; Shelton at fifth fell to Kenny Garstecki, 0-6, 2-6; and Brody Worl lost to Evan Taylor, 1-6, 3-6, at sixth singles.

Poncio and Echevarria lost at No. 1 doubles, 6-8; Manzo and Martinez lost 5-8 to Buurma and Pasantes at second doubles and Baranowksi and Buttermore were beaten 4-8 by Garstecki and Ryan Fedewa.
