HU spikers winless on first day at Grand View Tourney

The Huntington University volleyball team went winless on the first day of the Grand View University Tournament on Friday, Oct. 14.

The Foresters lost in straight sets to both Ottawa University and the University of Jamestown to slip to 11-12 on the season.

Coach Kyle Shondell’s squad fell to Ottawa by scores of 23-25, 19-25, 20-25.

Paige Eakright and Audrey Mallers paced the Huntington offense with nine and seven kills, respectively. Emily Hubby helped facilitate the offense with 16 assists. Breanna Levings chipped in 10 assists.

Kate Cobb highlighted the Foresters’ defensive effort with 20 digs. Callie Collins, Haley Longley and Danielle Gurwell each had a hand in three blocks.

Jamestown downed Huntington with frames of 25-22, 26-24 and 25-19.

Offensively, the Foresters got 11 kills from Mallers, eight from Josie Beaver and seven from Gurwell. Hubby and Levings supported their efforts with 17 and 13 assists, respectively.

Cobb again paced the Huntington defense, registering 17 digs. Collins was a force at the net, logging two solo blocks while assisting on five others.
