Hollowell, Z. Daugherty lead Vikings past Eagles

Hunter Hollowell and Zach Daugherty led the Huntington North High School boys’ varsity basketball team to a 63-51 victory over visiting Columbia City on Friday, Jan. 13.

Hollowell, a senior, and Daugherty, a sophomore, tallied 21 and 19 points, respectively, to help the Vikings improve to 10-4, 3-0 in the Northeast 8 Conference.

After spotting the Eagles a 17-15 lead in the first quarter, the Vikings seized the lead in the second, going up 30-27 by halftime. Coach Craig Teagle’s squad maintained its three-point advantage in the third, 44-41, before opening things up in the final frame to win comfortably.

Senior Chazz Bruce and junior Mitchell Geller chipped in eight points apiece for Huntington North, which went 20 of 41 from the field for 48.8 percent and 16 of 18 at the free throw line for 88.9 percent.

Senior Luke Pulver helped facilitate the Viking offense with four assists.

Parker Hazen tallied 17 points for Columbia City, 5-9, 2-1 in NE8 play. Garrett Roehling and Mitchell Wilson each added 11 points.

The Eagles converted 12 of 29 field goal attempts for 41.4 percent and 19 of 26 freebie tries for 73.1 percent.

In addition to his big scoring night, Hollowell was active on the glass, corralling seven rebounds to give Huntington North a 25-17 edge in that department.

The Vikings also won the junior varsity tilt, 60-41.

Sophomore Sawyer Stoltz led Huntington North with 19 points. Sophomores Trey Williams and Hank Pulver added 16 and 13 points, respectively, to the hosts’ cause.
