Champion Hall leads Vike grapplers to third at NE8 meet

Led by 126-pound champion Jacob Hall, the Huntington North High School varsity wrestling team claimed third place at the Northeast 8 Conference tournament on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Huntington North.

Hall, a junior, defeated Leo’s Kyle Davis, 7-2, to capture his weight division’s crown and improve to 27-4. His run to the title included a forfeit win and an 8-0 major decision versus DeKalb’s Rylan Eddy.

Ricky Haught was the runner-up at 132 pounds for the Vikings. Haught, a sophomore, earned a spot in the championship match by pinning Leo’s Clayton Jackson and Norwell’s Gage Schuckman. In the title bout, he got edged by Columbia City’s Matthew Wright, 3-2, to fall to 25-8.

Five wrestlers turned in bronze efforts for Huntington North. Sophomore Adrien George at 160 pounds, senior Wilson Lopshire at 170, sophomore Charlie Agnew at 182, senior Eli Parrett at 195 and senior Scott Foust at 285 pounds each tallied third-place points.

Fourth-place finishers for the Vikings were freshman Darryn Kuhl at 106, junior Nate Larkin at 138, junior Kaleb McVoy at 145 and sophomore Christian Graft at 220.

Freshman Brady Lewis at 113 and sophomore Zach Nevil at 152 rounded out Huntington North’s day with fifth and sixth-place showings, respectively.

Bellmont won the tournament with a register of 248. New Haven tallied 193 points to take second while Huntington North logged 167 to round out the top three.
