Woll, Foresters sizzle nets in win over MVNU

Strong shooting propelled the Huntington University men’s basketball team to an 88-78 victory over host Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Saturday, Feb. 18.

The Foresters shot a sizzling 64.4 percent, going 38 of 59 from the field, and a perfect 7 for 7 at the free-throw line. Senior Daniel Woll tallied a game-high 27 points, missing only three of his 16 field goal attempts. Junior Mike Bush netted 18 points while dishing out 10 assists and corralling eight rebounds. Sophomore Mason Coverstone added 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting.

Huntington built a 49-38 lead by halftime, forcing Mount Vernon to play catch-up in the second half.

The Foresters finish the regular season with 16 wins against 14 losses and a 7-11 mark in Crossroads League play. Slotting seventh in league standings, Huntington will travel to second-seeded Indiana Wesleyan University for the opening round of the conference tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m.

The Cougars, 19-11, 8-10 in league action, got 24 points from Deontae Cole, 19 from Joey Schmitz and 12 from Josh Ashwill.

Mount Vernon hit 28 of 66 field goal attempts for 42.4 percent and 13 of 14 freebie tries for 92.9 percent.

Emmett Fraley pulled down seven rebounds for the Cougars, but they lost the battle of the boards, 34-21.
