A two-run home run by Camille Furrow proved to be the game-winner in the second game and earned the Huntington University softball team a doubleheader sweep over visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Tuesday, March 21.

The Foresters, 8-7-1, won the first game, 3-1, behind a three-hitter by pitcher Lairen Miller, but trailed MVNU, 4-2, entering the bottom of the fourth inning. A Casey Lehman sacrifice fly and a Cougar error helped the Foresters knot the contest at 4-4 before Furrow launched a moon shot over the center field fence for what turned out to be game-winner.

The freshman hurler made the lead stand up by throwing two final scoreless innings.

Miller, also a freshman, came within two outs of notching a shutout before the Cougars scored their lone run in the seventh inning of the opener. Miller struck out five and didn't yield a walk.

Junior Audra Klopfenstein led the charge behind Miller with a 3 for 3 night at the plate, notching two runs batted in. Her last hit was a run-scoring triple.

HU, which had seven hits in the opener and 10 in the nightcap, took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two. Mount Vernon reached Furrow for a single tally in the second inning, two more in the third and then one in the fifth.

Furrow gave up 10 hits while striking out four and walking only one.

Karley Blankenship and Marty Harris each had two of the Foresters' 10 hits. Lehman, Klopfenstein and Furrow each knocked in two runs.
