Trio comes up big for HU in nightcap as HU women sweep Goshen

Casey Lehman, Camille Furrow and Sabrina Bethel combined for 10 hits in the nightcap as the Huntington University softball team dropped host Goshen College, 6-4, 5-1, in a twinbill on Tuesday, March 28.

Lehman, a freshman from New Palestine, was a perfect 4 for 4 at the dish with a run batted in in the nightcap as the Foresters improved to 11-10-1 on the season. Furrow and Bethel each had three hits as the trio had 10 of the team's 12 hits in the contest.

The big sticking was in support of Furrow on the mound as the freshman hurler went all seven innings, yielding just one run on eight hits, with six strikeouts and no walks.

Goshen led 3-2 after three innings, but HU pushed across three runs in the fourth to take the lead. Marty Harris, who opened the frame with a single, eventually came home on a passed ball, Natalie McGuire slapped a run-scoring single and Lehman extended the margin to 5-3 with a sacrifice fly.

Harris had three of the Foresters' 11 hits. Lehman and Bethel each had two knocks.

Lairen Miller got the win in the circle, yielding three earned runs on nine hits, with a strikeout and a walk.

In the second game, Goshen scored what proved to be its only run in the first inning, but the Foresters wiped that lead off with a three-run third before notching two more scores in the fifth inning.

McGuire started the third with an infield single and came around to score on Lehman's run-scoring double down the left field line. Audra Klopfenstein then doubled down the right field line and came home on a Furrow single.

Bethel smacked a two-run double to account for the Foresters' fifth inning runs.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Huntington.
