HU humbles Taylor in battle of top CL baseball teams

In a matchup between the top two squads in the Crossroads League, the conference-leading Huntington University baseball team humbled host Taylor University, 13-2, on Friday, April 21.

The first contest in a three-game series scheduled to be completed on Saturday, April 22, the Foresters showed why they’re the 24th-ranked team in the nation. Coach Mike Frame’s squad dominated in both phases of the game, banging out 10 hits while limiting the Trojans to just four.

Tanner Wyse yielded Taylor’s four base pokes and two earned runs during a complete-game stint on the mound. The senior walked three and struck out six on his way to notching the win, his sixth against just one defeat.

Huntington led 6-2 through four innings before logging a solo tally in the fifth and piling up six runs in the sixth to put the game far out of reach.

Senior Shea Beauchamp highlighted the Foresters’ attack with three hits – two of which were home runs – four runs batted in and three runs scored. Senior Andy Roser produced a triple and matched Beauchamp’s RBI total. Sophomore Tyler Zimske registered two hits while pinch-runner Kyle Selvey crossed home plate three times.

Huntington, 25-8, 18-3, did the balance of its damage against Taylor’s Jordan Crabb. The hurler surrendered five hits and six runs, four of which were earned, in 3.2 innings.

The Trojans fall to 29-16, 17-5 in league play.
