Viking baseball team romps past CC, 15-1

Six players had two runs batted in apiece for the Huntington North High School baseball team as it romped past host Columbia City, 15-1, on Thursday, April 27.

The Vikings tallied five runs in the second inning and put up a six-spot in the fourth on the way to improving to 9-4 on the season. The big hitting made a winner of starting pitcher Gage Sandlin, who actually didn't need much help as he yielded just four hits and one earned run in four innings, with one strikeout.

Elliot Lesperance had three hits to lead a 15-hit Viking attack, which saw Lesperance, Collin Landrum, Ian McCutcheon, CJ Landrum, Cody Barton and Logan Moreland each knock in two runs.

CJ Landrum, Barton and Moreland each had two hits, with one of Landrum's being a round-tripper.

The Vikings had a total of 10 stolen bases in the game.

Collin Landrum had a triple, and Lesperance and Barton each hit doubles.

After a scoreless first inning, the Vikings scored all the runs they would need in the second on three hits, three walks, four steals and a CC balk. They had a pair of runs in the third, got the six in the fourth and tacked on two more runs in the fifth before the game ended after CC's at-bat in the fifth due to the mercy rule.
