UW, PHH team up for 10th annual Sprint Triathlon Aug. 12

The United Way of Huntington County and the Parkview Huntington Family YMCA will host its 10th annual Sprint Triathlon, including both team and individual events, on Aug. 12.

This year, the day will also include the first Run for Reading 5K.

The events are open to anyone age 14 or older Registrations are now being accepted, with a discounted fee available through May 31.

Both events will be held at the YMCA. Check-in starts at 6:15 a.m. and race instructions will be given at 7 a.m. The closing ceremony will include awards for age group winners and overall top male and female finishers.

The triathlon begins at 7:15 a.m. Participants will swim 400 yards, bicycle 13 miles and run 3.1 miles, in that order.

Swimming will take place at the YMCA’s indoor pool.

The bicycle course begins and ends in the YMCA parking lot and travels on hilly, rural roads. Helmets are required.

The run also begins and ends at the YMCA rear parking lot.

Timing chips will be used for all events.

The Run for Reading 5K will begin at 7:30 a.m.
