Lady Vikes bludgeon NS to get to sectional championship game

The Huntington North high School varsity softball team bludgeoned Fort Wayne North Side, 21-0, on Tuesday, May 23, at the Homestead Softball Sectional.

Aubrie Eckert had four runs batted in and a quartet of Lady Vikes each knocked in three runs as HNHS, 15-7, advances on to play Homestead on Thursday, May 25, at 5:30 p.m. in the sectional championship game.

Mackenzi Cannici, Ariene Butler, Hannah Middlebrooks and Laney Shaw each knocked in three runs for HNHS, which scored four runs in the first inning, seven in the second, eight in the third and two in the fourth.

The Lady Vikes banged out 20 hits on the afternoon, with Middlebrooks having three and Cannici, Butler, Douglas, Shaw and Jordyn Poulson each collecting two. Cannici's two were a triple and a double.

Meanwhile, in the circle, Middlebrooks started and got the win with three scoreless innings of two-hit ball, with seven strikeouts. Kendra Arnold went the final two scoreless, with four strikeouts.

North Side finishes at 3-14 on the season.

Homestead, 19-6, on the season, advanced to the championship game by defeating Fort Wayne South Side, 10-0, in the second game on Tuesday night.

The Lady Vikes beat the Lady Spartans, 14-11, in the regular season.
