Karate kids pick up hardware at Summer Smash

Members of Genbu-Kai Karate of Indiana, in Huntington, participated in the Summer Smash Karate Tournament in Fort Wayne on July 22, both as officials and  competitors.

Results of Genbu-Kai of Indiana’s competitors are:

Mason Payton — second place, 7-8 year old boys, novice kata.

Lextin Keefer — fourth place, 7-8 year old boys, intermediate kata.

Jaiden Kirk — first place, 9-10 year old boys, advanced kata; and first place, 9-10 year old boys, advanced kobudo kata.

Aiden Miller — second place, 11-12 year old boys, novice kata.

Rachel McGregor — first place, 18-34 year old women, novice kata.

Kevin McGregor — first place, 18-34 year old men, intermediate kata; and second place, 18-34 year old men, intermediate kobudo kata.

Gretchen Schaadt — second place, 35 year old and over women, novice kata.

Melanie Anderson — first place, 18-34 year old advanced women, kata; first place, 18-34 year old advanced women, kobudo kata; grand champion, 18-plus year old, kata; and grand champion, 18-plus  year old, kobudo kata.

Amanda Anderson — first place, 18-34 year old women, black belt kata; and first place, 18-34 year old women, black belt kobudo kata.

Sensei Dawn Anderson — first place, 35 year old and over women, black belt kata; and first place, 35 year old and over women, black belt kobudo kata.

The Japan Karate-Do Genbu-Kai of Indiana organization teaches traditional karate and kobudo classes at 1210 S. Briant St., Huntington.
