Viking soccerboys short against Manchester

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity soccer team came up short to host Manchester, 4-2, on Saturday, Aug. 19.

The Vikings, 2-1, spotted the Squires a 2-0 lead in the first half. The visitors countered with two goals of their own in the second stanza – both courtesy of senior Caleb Smith – but the hosts matched that offensive production to stay in front by the end whistle.

The Huntington North offense finished with 12 shots for the game. Sophomore Kyle McGinnis helped facilitate the scoring, rendering an assist on one of Smith’s goals.

Manchester, 2-0, matched Huntington North’s shot production. Seniors Nathan Self and Noah Beck, junior Isaiah Davis and sophomore Caleb Stout each found the back of the net.

The Squire quartet did its damage against Viking goalkeeper Sam Poling. The senior went the distance in goal, making four saves in addition to allowing the four scores.

Poling’s Manchester counterpart, Konrad Borgmann, recorded seven stops on his way to notching the win.
