Lady Viking harriers 8th at own invitational

The Huntington North High School girls’ varsity cross country team placed eighth at its own invitational on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Huntington University Cross Country Course.

Senior Chloe Scheiber led the Lady Vikings, capturing 14th place in 20:02. Freshman Hanna Whitney claimed 29th, crossing the finish line in 21:06.7. Junior Kyler Hoopingarner took 45th, clocking in at 21:57, junior Alena Miller earned 50th, stopping the timer in 22:10.2, and sophomore Kendyl Coles took 61st with a time of 22:54.6, which capped the team’s score at 199.

Senior Hollyn Anderson placed 68th in 23:28.6 and senior Charlotte Borland finished 79th in 24:01.9 to round out Huntington North’s day.

Led by top overall finisher Abby Green, who posted a time of 18:00.9, Carroll won the invitational with a score of 25.

Homestead was the runner-up with a 101, followed by Bishop Dwenger, 131; Concordia Lutheran, 135; East Noble, 139; Northridge, 140; and DeKalb, 172.

Also, Huntington North, 199; Columbia City, 266; Northrop, 272; Norwell, 273; West Noble, 295; Angola, 378; and Leo, 405.

In the junior varsity race, the Lady Vikings placed seventh out of 14 teams.

Senior Emma Melcher paced Huntington North, securing 16th in 23:10.6. Freshman Lesley Zook collected 20th, stepping over the end stripe in 23:31.4. Freshman Naomi Richison clocked in at 24:17.1, good for 31st. Junior Lisa Nalliah grabbed 45th in 25:19.7 while senior Haley Burnau attained 69th in 29:45.2, capping the squad’s score at 181.

Seniors Jennifer Leonard and Rachel Moore finished 70th and 72nd in 30:25.7 and 31:46, respectively, to complete the team.
