Forester soccermen again play to deadlock

For the second time in less than 24 hours, the Huntington University men’s soccer team had to settle for another double-overtime tie as it finished in a 1-1 stalemate with the host school at the University of Cumberlands Classic on Saturday, Sept. 2.

The Foresters, 1-1-2, took advantage of the hosts being down two men for the final 20 minutes of regulation to knot the score at 1-1 in the 84th minute on a header in the box by Jake Erlandson, off an assist from Guilherme Lins Souza. But the Foresters never could find the back of the netting a second time in regulation and both OTs and had to settle for the deadlock, despite firing off 30 shots, 13 on frame.

HU goalie Troy Hester stopped three of four shots, and has now given up just three goals in four games.

The goal for Erlandson, a freshman, was the first of his collegiate career.
