Lady Vike spikers 1-2 at Zionsville Tournament

The Huntington North High School varsity volleyball team went 1-2 at the Zionsville Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The Lady Vikings, 13-7, opened the tourney with an 0-2 loss to Zionsville, 14-25, 10-25.

Senior Kalee Platt and sophomore Macy Niswander paced Huntington North with four kills apiece. Senior Kaitlyn Stephan supported their efforts with 11 assists.

Platt also made her presence felt on defense, tallying seven digs. Niswander recorded a block.

Coach Trinda Goings’ squad bounced back in its next match, sweeping Cardinal Ritter, 25-20, 25-11.

Niswander highlighted the Lady Vikings’ offensive effort with 10 kills. Stephan fueled the scoring with 22 assists. Platt added points with three aces.

Defensively, sophomore Morgan Richison tallied 12 digs and two blocks. Junior Maddy Robrock also logged a pair of blocks.

Huntington North finished out the day with a 1-2 loss to West Lafayette. The Lady Vikes opened the contest with a 20-25 defeat before rebounding with a 25-21 triumph in the second set. West Lafayette countered, though, with a 15-9 victory in the third frame to take the match.

Niswander registered 13 kills while Stephan dispensed 24 assists for Huntington North. Junior Brette Fawcett chipped in three aces.

On the defensive side, senior Rileigh Johnson notched nine digs and Robrock posted two blocks.

Huntington North’s junior varsity squad went 2-2 at the Southwood Tournament.

The Lady Vikings, 9-8, kicked off the tourney with an 18-25, 22-25 loss to Floyd Central, followed by a 12-25, 25-24, 6-15 defeat to Elkhart Memorial. Huntington North turned things around after that, beating New Prairie, 25-10, 21-25, 15-12, and Northrop, 25-21, 25-18.

The Lady Vikes’ offensive effort for the day was highlighted by Macy Campbell, who produced 19 kills and seven aces, and Morgan Robrock, who supplied 51 assists.

Sydney Selvage and Lauren Trickle led the team’s defense with 20 digs and five blocks, respectively.
