Bellmont nips Viking netboys

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity tennis team was nipped by host Bellmont, 2-3, on Thursday, Sept. 14.

The Vikings, 6-7, got wins from No. 1 singles player Auden Eckert and the No. 2 doubles team of Jarret Gray and Adam Zahn, but the clinching win got away on a tough three-set loss at first doubles.

Eckert, a senior, breezed past Robby Ysidron, 6-3, 6-3, and the doubles team beat Josiah Matheau and Jarrett Bailey, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

The first doubles team of juniors Spencer Atkinson and Clark Kitchen won their first set, 6-0, but Bellmont’s Michael Wetter and Oliver Gerhes came back to claim the victory, 6-2, 6-4.

Matt Karst at second singles fell to Nick Teeple, 2-6, 4-6, and Thomas Schweller at third singles lost to Parker Braun, 4-6, 3-6.

The Huntington North junior varsity lost, 2-3, to fall to 2-8-1 on the season.

Viking wins came from single player Jack Young and the doubles team of Nick Johnson and Drew Kreiger.
