Spahr leads HN runners to 8th at Flashrock

A top-20 finish by Brock Spahr helped the Huntington North High School boys’ varsity cross country team place eighth at the Flashrock Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 16, in Carmel.

Spahr, a junior, captured 15th place, crossing the finish line in 16:21.77. Junior Jacob Wust finished second for the Vikings, claiming 26th with a clocking of 16:38.20. Sophomore Isaiah Clampitt turned in a time of 16:59.58, good for 42nd. Senior Nolan Young took 55th among team runners, stepping over the end stripe in 17:11.90. Sophomore Wilson Whicker rounded out the team’s scoring five, securing 62nd in 17:16.94.

Senior JJ Whicker placed 66th in 17:19.11 while junior Jarid Miller finished 70th in 17:24.43 to complete Huntington North’s top seven.

Other competitors for the Vikings included junior Drew Davis, 79th overall, 17:25.86; senior Aaron Hendryx, 89th, 17:32.36; senior Jackson Wright, 119th, 18:04; sophomore Elijah Eckert, 138th, 18:32.25; and junior Alex Bishop, 154th, 18:57.51;

Hamilton Southeastern senior Gabe Fendel was the race’s individual champion, coming home in 15:05.88.

Cathedral won the invitational with a score of 66. North Central was second with a tally of 92, followed by Zionsville, 127; Westfield, 148; Franklin, 168; Hamilton Southeastern, 172; Homestead, 187; and Huntington North, 200.
