HU spikers fall to MVNU

The Huntington University volleyball team fell to host Mount Vernon Nazarene University, 1-3, on Friday, Sept. 22.

After dropping the first two sets, 9-25, 21-25, the Foresters got on the board with a 25-21 victory in the third frame. The ensuing set saw Coach Kyle Shondell’s squad nearly tie up the match before coming up short, 24-26.

Huntington, 9-9, 4-4 in Crossroads League play, got nine kills from junior Haley Longley and seven apiece from senior Josie Beaver and junior Tailor Schultheis. Senior Emily Hubby and junior Breanna Levings supported their efforts with 18 and 15 assists, respectively.

Sophomore Elaine Bredensteiner and freshman Ariene Butler got in on the scoring with two aces apiece.

On the defensive side, senior Kate Cobb registered 22 digs for the Foresters while senior Mikayla Carpenter logged 15. At the net, Beaver recorded two blocks and assisted on three others. Senior Danielle Gurwell and freshman Lauren Cresse each notched one block and had a hand in five others.

Win the win, Mount Vernon improves to 12-8, 2-4 in league action.
