HU spikers fall short to USF

The Huntington University volleyball team came up short to host University of Saint Francis, 1-3, on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

After winning the opening set, 25-22, the Foresters got edged in the ensuing three frames, 17-25, 19-25, 18-25, to fall to 9-11, 4-6 in Crossroads League play.

Huntington’s offensive effort was spearheaded by senior Danielle Gurwell and freshmen Lauren Cresse and Brandy Michie, who logged seven kills apiece. Senior Emily Hubby and freshman Jenna Tacosik supported them with 19 and 11 assists, respectively.

Sophomore Elaine Bredensteiner chipped in four aces to the team’s scoring effort.

Defensively, senior Kate Cobb paced the Foresters with 28 digs. Senior Mikayla Carpenter added 15 digs.

Gurwell was a force at the net, registering three solo blocks and assisting on one other. Senior Josie Beaver and junior Haley Longley each had a hand in four blocks.

USF, 6-13, 5-4 in conference, got 16 kills from Cassidy Rammel, 52 assists from Maria Pelak and 26 digs from Valorie Flick.
