The 1-2 punch of Chloe Scheiber and Alena Miller helped Huntington North to a second place finish at the Marion Girls’ Cross Country Regional on Saturday, Oct. 14, guaranteeing them a spot at next week’s New Haven Semi-state.

Scheiber, a senior, placed fourth and Miller, a junior, placed sixth to lead the Lady Vikings to a score of 72, 32 off of champion Oak Hill but more than good enough to put them among the five qualifiers for semi-state, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, at The Plex in Fort Wayne.

Scheiber came home in 18:57.0 and Miller crossed the finish line in 19:50.0. After that, freshman Hanna Whtiney was 18th among team competitors with a time of 21:03.2, senior Charlotte Borland was one spot further back in 21:06.4 and senior Emma Melcher was 25th in 21:24.8.

Completing the HNHS team, junior Kyler Hoopingarner was 30th in 21:55.5 and senior Hollyn Anderson was 43rd in 23:02.3.

Oak Hill had the top two finishers in the race as senior Margo Hornocker blazed to a clocking of 18:09.3 and sophomore Mollie Gamble clocked in a 18:39.5.

South Adams placed third with 90 points, Bishop Luers was fourth with 95 point and Norwell got the final qualifying spot with 112 points.

The top 10 individuals whose team did not advance also earned spots at the semi-state. Morgan Farr of Southwood placed ninth overall to lead these qualifiers.
