Matea Knispel’s second goal of the game broke a 1-1 tie and pushed the Huntington University women’s soccer team to a 2-1 win over host Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Saturday, Oct. 14.

Knispel, who entered the game with 13 goals, gave HU a 1-0 lead in the first half when she connected on a left-footed shot from about 20 yards out at the 4:09 mark. The teams were deadlocked at 1-1, however, when the junior midfielder put a penalty kick behind the MVNU goalie at the 82:44 mark following a penalty call for a hard MVNU foul against Knispel.

HU goalie Paige Coolman made the pair of goals stand up with an eight-save performance.

HU runs its record to 7-6-1, 3-2 in the Crossroads League, while MVNU drops to 8-4-1, 2-2-1 in the conference.

HU wound up with 16 shots for the game, two less than Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon goalies made six saves in the contest.
