Forester booters move past Bethel in CL Tourney

A pair of first-half goals were the difference for the fourth-seeded Huntington University men’s soccer team in a 2-0 win over fifth-seeded Bethel College in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at King Stadium.

With the victory, the Foresters, 10-4-4, 5-2-2 in league play, advance to the tournament semifinals for the second year in a row. Coach Russ Lawson’s squad will hit the road to face top-seeded Spring Arbor University on Saturday, Nov. 4.

The opening stanza saw freshman Valentin De Coninck and junior Matheus Louzada score within four minutes of each other. In a true display of teamwork, Louzada assisted on De Coninck’s goal while De Coninck then turned around and assisted on Louzada’s.

Huntington finished with six shots for the game, four of which were on goal.

Bethel fired 16 shots, with six coming on frame. Forester goalkeeper Troy Hester stopped five of those shots while the defense was credited with the other stop.

Philip Keller blocked two shots for the Pilots while conceding the Foresters’ two goals to take the defeat.

Bethel finishes the year 10-6-3, 4-3-2 in conference.
