Arens, Foresters swat Lawrence Tech for first win

Tyler Arens swatted down a career-best six shots to lead a stingy defense as the Huntington University men’s basketball team stopped visiting Lawrence Tech, 71-57, on Tuesday, Nov. 7, for its first win of the season.

Lawrence Tech entered the game averaging 76 points per contest through its first two games, but the Foresters limited the Blue Devils to a 19 of 59, 32.2 percent shooting performance. Led by Arens, the Foresters were relentless in the paint, giving up just 18 points in the lane while blocking 10 shots.

Arens added to his big night defensively with team-highs of 18 points and seven rebounds. Mike Bush added 12 points and nine assists and Konner Platt chipped in 11 points.

The Foresters held a 34-23 lead after the first 20 minutes of play and led 39-26 when Lawrence Tech went on a three-point barrage and cut the margin to 43-42. Arens then hit an old-fashioned  three-point play and Platt drained a long three to push the margin back to seven.

Arens knocked down 7 of 10 shots from the field as HU as a team connected on 28 of 60 for 46.7 percent. The Forester only went to the free-throw line seven times, but hit six for 85.7 percent.

Lawrence Tech was paced by Ty’rese Searless with a game-high 20 points.
