HU women bowlers 3rd out of 25 at Raider Classic

The Huntington University women’s bowling team claimed third place out of 25 teams at the Roto Grip Raider Classic, held Saturday, Nov. 11, and Sunday, Nov. 12, at Beaver Vu Bowl, in Beavercreek, OH.

Lily Rutherford had a big weekend for the Foresters, averaging a school record of 225.2 for five games to win the singles portion of the competition. The freshman scored a five-game total of 1,126, with games of 212, 254, 196, 227 and 237 to out average second place by 15 pins per game.

The Foresters as a team posted a score of 4,555 on Saturday for the fifth spot in standings. After a slow start on Sunday, they turned it around to shoot a score of 3,749 for 20 baker games – enough to move into third place and earn a spot in the match-play round.

The match-play format featured the top four teams each bowling one game on four different lanes, with the top two teams moving onto the championship match. Huntington fell just 18 pins shy of advancement.

Brianna Fish also had a strong outing, winning the singles portion of the junior varsity tournament. The sophomore averaged 191 for five games with scores of 169, 182, 242, 194 and 172.
