HU men lose to No. 16 Bethel

A 9-1 run at the end of the first half put No. 16 Bethel in the driver’s seat and paved the way for the visiting Pilots to defeat the Huntington University men’s basketball team, 85-63, on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Bethel, 9-1, led HU by 33-28 with just under 3:30 to go in the first half, but the spurt improved the Pilots’ margin to 42-29 heading into intermission, starting the Foresters on their way to their sixth loss in 10 outings.

Mike Bush topped the Foresters with 15 points and six assists. Devon Merder and Tyler Arens each registered 12 points and Konner Platt tossed in 11 points.

Tanner Shepherd scored a career-high 25 points to lead Bethel, which also got 17 points from Gage Ott,  15 points from Luke Fisher and 13 points from Paul Forman.

HU hit just 23 of 58 field goal tries for 39.7 percent and hit 9 of 15 free throw tries for 60 percent. By contract, Bethel knocked down 32 shots in 58 attempts for 55.2 percent and hit 11 of 14 free throw shots for 78.6 percent.

The Pilots owned the backboards to the tune of  43-25.

Former HU guard Kyle Hartman contributed 10 assists and nine rebounds to the Pilots’ cause.
