'Krewald Show' leads Foresters past Bethel

Hailey Krewald scored nine of her 12 points for the game late in the second quarter to help give the Huntington University women’s basketball team a 13-point halftime edge and the Foresters went on to beat visiting Bethel, 66-52, on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Brooke Saylor matched a team record with 21 rebounds and added 13 points, a career-high six blocks and a team-best four assists as HU improved to 8-1 overall, 2-0 in Crossroads League play.

The Foresters led 17-7 after the first quarter and closed out the second quarter with a 28-15 lead after “the Hailey Krewald Show” that started halfway through the frame. The 5-7 senior intercepted a pass and went the distance for an easy lay-in, then she hit a pair of free throws, knocked down a three and then hit a two-pointer.

The Foresters led 45-32 after three quarters and got the lead as high as 22 points at one point in the fourth frame.

Sarah Fryman led HU in scoring with 19 points.

Krewald added eight rebounds to her scoring line.

Saylor’s 21 boards ties a record dating back to 1986, and led the Foresters to a 45-32 rebounding advantage.

HU hit 22 of 57 shots from the field for 38.6 percent and drilled 18 of 19 free tosses for 94.7 percent. Bethel knocked down 20 of 58 shots from the field for 34.5 percent and hit only 4 of 11 free throw tries for 36.4 percent.

Kelsey Brickner scored a game-high 20 points to lead Bethel. Kamal Glenn added 10 points.
