Frosh wins twice as HU kicks off indoor track season

Freshman Benedicte Nzombi-Fenner was a double-winner for the Huntington University women’s track team as it competed at the Sean Brady Conditioner on Saturday, Dec. 2, against host Trine University and Grace College.

Logan Daniel claimed the only win of the day for the HU men as they also competed at the meet.

Nzombi-Fenner, a freshman, ran into third place in the HU record books by winning the 60-meter dash in :08.06. She also won the long jump at 4.91meters, another mark that landed her in the top 10 in the HU record book.

Daniels flew 1.80 meters in the high jump for his win for the men’s team.

For the women, Nicole Pennington placed third in the 60 in :08.10, and she also placed third in the 200-meter dash, in :27.31.

HU took a second and a third in the pole vault, with Elise Cormany going 2.75 meters for runner-up and Alyssabeth Cottle going 2.59 meters for third.

Mara McFarland took bronze in the 60-meter hurdles in :10.83 and Molly Mitchell was third in the 400-meter dash, in 1:02.72.

On the men’s side, Avniel Barrow started off indoor season with a bang, breaking the school record in the 60 with a second place time of :07.10.

Frosh Peyton Depriest ran the third fastest indoor 200 time in HU history with a runner-up clocking of :23.13.

Adam Woods took third for HU in the long jump at 5.96 meters. Brooks Gerke, competing unattached, finished second in pole vault by soaring 4.12 meters.
