North swimgirls dominate Blackford

The Huntington North High School girls’ swim team dominated visiting Blackford, 116-50, on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

Macy Lange and Allie Aschliman highlighted the Lady Vikings’ domination with two victories apiece. Lange, a junior, topped the 200-yard individual medley in 2:41.41, followed by the 100-yard freestyle in 1:02.76. Aschliman, a sophomore, took the 200-yard freestyle in 2:20.51, then followed it up with a win in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 1:13.12.

Laney Shaw put forth a golden effort in the 50-yard freestyle for Huntington North, clocking in at :28.53. The sophomore also claimed second in the 100-yard butterfly, coming home in 1:17.56. Adalyn Harvey was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke, stopping the timer in 1:28.85. The freshman also placed third in the 200-yard individual medley in 3:09.18.

Morgan Cogar rounded out the Lady Vikings’ first-place finishes in individual events with her triumph in the 500-yard freestyle. The junior posted a time of 6:48.25.

In relay races, Shaw, Aschliman and Lange helped Huntington North win the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. The trio teamed up with sophomore Alyssa Brinkman in both races, taking the medley in 2:12.85 and the freestyle in 4:24.77. The hosts also placed second in the freestyle, with the quartet of Harvey, sophomore Alayna Stroup and freshmen Bekah Brunner and Anna Manry clocking in at 4:57.60.

The Lady Vikes also captured first and third in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The hosts’ top foursome, of Harvey, Stroup, Brunner and Manry, stopped the timer in 2:08.78. The bronze quartet, of juniors Julie Nogaj and Dariela Villamar-Lobo, sophomore Brenna Mason and freshman Mandi Lippe, posted a time of 2:35.56.

In solo action, Brinkman, Manry and Stroup each put forth second and third-place efforts for Huntington North. Brinkman was runner-up in the 500 freestyle in 7:02.51 and third in the 200 freestyle in 2:39.40. Manry earned runner-up honors in the 200 IM in 3:03.17 before claiming third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:35.89. Stroup was the silver finisher in the 100 backstroke in 1:17.74 and the bronze placer in the 100 butterfly in 1:22.19.

Brunner rounded out the Lady Vikings’ podium efforts with a third place finish in the 100 freestyle, coming home in 1:11.86.
