Brinkman, Shaw lead Lady Vike swimmers past DeKalb

Alyssa Brinkman and Laney Shaw each won two races to lead the Huntington North High School girls’ swim team to a 108-62 triumph over visiting DeKalb on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

Brinkman topped the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke. The sophomore took the butterfly in 1:24.15 and the backstroke in 1:15.26. Shaw, also a sophomore, won the 100 and 200-yard freestyles. She swam the shorter race in 1:02.34 and the longer one in 2:21.19.

Allie Aschliman and Macy Lange both posted first and second-place finishes for the Lady Vikings. Aschliman, a sophomore, won the 500-yard freestyle in 6:19.07. She put forth her silver effort in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in at 2:32.32. Lange, a junior, took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of :28.43. Her runner-up showing came in the 100-yard breaststroke, which she swam in 1:19.19.

Lange also swam on two first-place relay teams for Huntington North. Along with Shaw and freshmen Bekah Brunner and Adalyn Harvey, she completed a quartet that took the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:02.02. Later, with Shaw, Aschliman and freshman Anna Manry, she formed a foursome that won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:24.64.

Rounding out the Lady Vikes’ top point-getters was Alayna Stroup, who notched a pair of silver finishes for the team. The sophomore placed second in the 100 butterfly in 1:26.34 before earning runner-up honors in the 100 backstroke in 1:16.40.
