Webber International stops Foresters on hardwood

The Huntington University men’s basketball team suffered an 87-78 defeat to host Webber International University on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

Osandai Vaughn and Tommie Luke led the Warriors to the victory over the Foresters with a pair of scoring efforts that eclipsed the 20-point mark. Vaughn tallied a game-best 28 points while Luke poured in 24 for the hosts, 5-6.

Behind Vaughn and Luke’s efforts, Webber crafted a 41-37 lead on Huntington by halftime, which it expanded to as many as 20 points in the second half.

The Foresters, 6-8, got a career-best 22 points from Mason Coverstone. The junior did the majority of his damage from beyond the arc, where he drained 6 of 7 shots. Sophomore Konner Platt scored 18 points for the visitors and senior Mike Bush logged 15 points and 13 assists while seniors Devon Merder and Trevor Lockwood both chipped in 10 points.

Merder also collected seven rebounds for Huntington, which lost the battle of the boards, 40-27. Vaughn grabbed nine caroms for Webber.

Huntington went 31 of 69 from the field for 44.9 percent. The Foresters took only four shots at the free-throw line, making two for 50 percent.

Webber converted 35 of 65 field goal attempts for 53.8 percent and 8 of 15 freebie opportunities for 53.3 percent.
