Dwyer's squeeze in seventh gives Foresters doubleheader sweep over Taylor

Kate Dwyer executed a squeeze bunt to drive in the winning run in the second game and give the Huntington University softball team a doubleheader sweep over visiting Taylor, 10-2 and 4-3, on Tuesday, April 6.

The Foresters used a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to improve their record to 9-11 overall and 3-1 in the Mid-Central Conference.

In the opener, Katie Bowers went 4 for 4 with a home run and three runs batted in to lead HU to the win.

The Foresters were down 3-1 in the seventh of the second game when Megan Smith tripled to left-center to start the frame, then came home on a single by Abby Dilling. After a walk and passed ball, Aubrey Garner tied things up with a single. After an intentional pass to Bowers to load the basses, Dwyer knocked in the game-winner with her bunt.

HU didn't get on the board until the fifth when Smith walked and Garner tripled to deep left-center.

Stacie Rawnsley took the game for Huntington by having five strikeouts while giving up three runs, one earned, on six hits.

Garner finished with three hits and two RBI to lead the offense.

Molly Long won the opener by giving up two runs on six hits while striking out two.

Taylor scored both of its runs early before HU got on the board in the third with two runs of its own. The Foresters took a one-run lead in the fourth inning, then tacked on two more in the fifth on a Jeanine Vaszari triple. Bowers concluded the game early by advancing the cushion to eight with a blast over the centerfield fence in the sixth.
