HNHS swimgirls third, swimboys fourth at four-way meet

The Huntington North High School girls’ swim team placed third at a four-way meet versus host Warsaw, Rochester and Tippecanoe Valley on Wednesday, Jan. 3.

The Lady Vikings tallied 101 points at the meet. Warsaw topped the four-team competition with a register of 201 while Rochester was runner-up with 180 points and Tippecanoe Valley took fourth with 63.

Huntington North was led by Macy Lange, who produced a pair of podium finishes. The junior captured second place in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:01.83, and third in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:20.33.

Lange also swam on a pair of third-place relay teams. She teamed up with sophomores Alyssa Brinkman, Allie Aschliman and Laney Shaw in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in 2:11.44. The junior then joined forces with sophomore Alayna Stroup, Shaw and Aschliman in the 400-yard freestyle relay, coming home in 4:23.82.

The Lady Vikings’ only other topthree finish at the meet came courtesy of Aschliman, who earned runner-up honors in the 100-yard butterfly, stopping the timer in 1:07.19.

The Huntington North boys’ swim team also competed at the meet, finishing fourth with a tally of 48. Warsaw took first with 205 points, Rochester claimed second with 144 and Tippecanoe Valley attained third with 121.

The Vikings’ best finish of the evening came in the 100-yard backstroke, which saw sophomore Nathan York finish fourth in 1:13.65.

Keegan Mautz and Conner Mason both turned in fifth place efforts for the team. Mautz, a junior, produced his in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in :58.64, while Mason, a senior, earned his in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 6:20.89.
