Forester women break loss streak by topping SAU

The Huntington University women’s basketball team took control of the game in the second and third quarters on the way to a 57-41 win over host Spring Arbor University on Saturday, Jan. 6.

The Foresters, improving to 10-7 on the season, turned an 8-8 game after one quarter of play into a 29-24 advantage by halftime, and then put the hammer down on the hosts with a 15-6 third quarter, which had them sporting a 44-30 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Casey Morton came off the HU bench with a game-high 13 points to lead HU, and Erin Mohr and Brooke Saylor added 12 points each. Saylor was also a beast on the boards, collecting a game-high 14 rebounds to explain the Foresters’ 38-28 advantage on the glass.

Mohr had a big overall game as she added three assists and three steals to her day’s work.

Maddie Richer also had three assists.

Rachel Nelson led Spring Arbor, 7-10, with 12 points.

HU hit 21 of 55 shots from the field for 38.2 percent and went 13 of 15 from the free-throw line for 86.7 percent. The Cougars hit 15 of 44 shots from the field for 34.1 percent and added 7 of 12 from the foul stripe for 58.3 percent.
