Mautz leads HNHS swimboys to fifth at conference

Keegan Mautz had a pair of sixth place finishes to lead the Huntington North High School boys’ swim team to a fifth place finish at the NE8 Conference meet Saturday, Jan. 13, at Norwell Middle School.

Mautz, a sophomore, placed sixth in the 200-yard individual medley, in 2:25.22, and came back to match that finish in the 100-yard freestyle, in :57.78.

Nathan York also had a sixth place finish for the Vikings, touching the wall in 1:10.38 for his placing in the 100-yard butterfly.

The Vikings best finish of the meet came from the 200-yard medley relay team, which included Aidan Miller and Conner Mason as well as York and Mautz and finished fifth in 2:03.82.

The Vikings also got sixth place finishes from their 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relay teams. The shorter race team included Mason Anderson, Jamal Werling, Reid Dillion and Cole Davidson, and came home in 2:00.16. The longer race team was the same four who placed fifth in the medley.

Mautz and York were selected to the conference’s honorable mention squad.

The Vikings cored 111 points. Columbia City won the meet easily with 345 points. Bellmont was second with 233 points, Norwell was a notch back at 232, East Noble scored 210 and DeKalb scored 110.
