Aschliman a conference champ as Lady Vike swimmers 4th at NE8

Sophomore Allie Aschliman was the lone conference champion for the Huntington North High School girls’ varsity swim team as it placed fourth at the NE8 conference meet on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Norwell Middle School.

Ashliman took home gold in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 1:04.84 to beat runner-up Naomi Guthrie of East Noble by more than a half-second.

Aschliman later on took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, in 2:12.91, on her way to being selected first team all-conference.

Laney Shaw took a third in the 100-yard freestyle, in 1:00.13, and a sixth in the 200 free, in 2:15.76 as she was selected to the all-conference second team.

The Lady Vikings scored 142 points. Columbia City won the meet with 278 points, three more than runner-up East Noble. Norwell placed third with 252, Bellmont was fifth with 123 and DeKalb was sixth with 116.

Macy Lange got the lone other top-6 finish individually for HNHS, placing sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:19.69.

The Lady Viking relay squads added a fourth, fifth and sixth.

The 200-yard medlley relay team of Alyssa Brinkman, Lange, Aschliman and Shaw touched the wall in 2:07.83 for a fourth place finish. The fifth place finish was by the 400-yard freestyle relay team, made up of the same four girls, which clocked in at 4:11.32. The sixth place finish came from the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Morgan Cogar, Adalyn Harvey, Anna Manry and Alayna Stroup, which clocked in at 2:06.49.
