HU women bowlers grab second at Buckeye Baker Classic

The Huntington University women’s bowling team claimed second place at the Buckeye Baker Classic, held Saturday, Jan. 13, and Sunday, Jan. 14, at HP Lanes, in Columbus, OH.

The 10-team tournament started off with 36 Baker games. The top four squads from that round then squared off in match play to determine a champion.

The Foresters started off the competition with a bang, finishing with a score of 4,046 pins in 24 Baker games on Saturday, good for second place.

On Sunday, Huntington struggled to maintain its hold and ended up tied with Morehead State for the second spot with a qualifying total of 6,044 pins in 36 Baker games. The tiebreaker favored Huntington, though, as it had the higher single game in qualifying.

The Foresters advanced to match play, a best-of-three format, where they faced Morehead State in the first round. The Foresters proved they were the better team by sweeping the Eagles, 200-195, 168-150. The win sent Huntington to the championship match against seventh-ranked University of Pikeville. The match went all three sets, with Huntington falling just short of the victory, 178-185, 178-171, 149-187.
