HU bowlers champions at Buckeye Baker Classic

The Huntington University men’s bowling team claimed the championship at the Buckeye Baker Classic, held Saturday, Jan. 13, and Sunday, Jan. 14, at HP Lanes, in Columbus, OH.

The 10-team tournament started off with 36 Baker games. The top four squads from that round then squared off in match play to determine a champion.

Huntington finished Saturday in second place. The Foresters felled 4,600 pins for their 24 Baker games. Things did not go quite so smoothly for the Foresters on Sunday, as they nearly slipped out of the top four before hanging on for third place with a qualifying score of 6,597, only 14 pins ahead of 5th place. However, their third-place finish was enough to advance to match play.

In first-round action, Huntington topped Toledo in two, 176-162, 207-205. The win propelled the men into the championship match, where they faced 12th-ranked University of Pikeville. It was a tight match-up, as each game came down to the 10th frame with the Foresters claiming the title in two, 157-146, 207-202.
