Platt drains game-winner at buzzer in OT for Foresters

Sophomore guard Konner Platt drained a triple as time expired in overtime to lift the Huntington University men’s basketball team past Goshen College, 100-97, on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Platt’s shot broke an eight-game loss string for the Foresters and improved their season mark to 7-14, 3-6 in Crossroads League play. As Goshen was playing for the last shot of OT, the Foresters’ Trevor Lockwood intercepted a pass down low with six seconds left. He then found Mike Bush, who found Platt in a corner for his buzzer beater.

The Foresters tried to hand the game to Goshen in the second half after taking a 55-42 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Goshen guard Billy Geschke banged in 30 points, including a field goal with eight seconds on the clock to knot the score at 88-88 in regulation play.

Bush, who’s big three-pointer tied the score at 97-all with 30 seconds left in overtime, led all scorers with a season-best 32 points to go along with a game-high 14 assists. Lockwood also notched a double-double for HU by posting 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, in addition to blocking three shots.

Mason Coverstone added 21 points to the HU mix, and Devon Merder notched 15 points.

With Coverstone connecting on 5 of 6, the Foresters wound up hitting 15 of 24 three-point tries for 62.5 percent on the night. Overall they hit 32 of 67 shots for 47.8 percent, and added 21 successes in 26 tries at the free-throw line for 80.8 percent.

Goshen, 10-11 overall, 3-6 in the CL, hit 37 of 73 shots from the field for 50.7 percent and nailed 12 of 15 free throw tries for 80 percent.
