HNHS gymnasts fall to Carroll

The Huntington North High School varsity gymnastics team suffered a 110.2-100.1 defeat to visiting Carroll on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

The Lady Chargers swept the top three places in every event to defeat the Lady Vikings by a safe margin.

Huntington North’s best showing on the evening came courtesy of Brianna Bates, who claimed fourth place in the all-around with a score of 34.025. The placements that helped propelled the senior to that finish came in the floor exercise and vault, which both saw her claim fourth. Bates tallied a 9.400 on floor and an 8.450 on vault. Laora Pampaloni tied with Bates in the latter event. Bates also took sixth on balance beam, scoring an 8.200.

Other Lady Viking placements came courtesy of Aleah Eckert, fifth place on floor with a 9.175, and Danielle Korporal, fifth place on beam with an 8.250. Ultimately, Eckert took sixth in the all-around with a tally of 31.100.

Huntington North also lost the junior varsity meet, 90.5-56.475.

The Lady Vikings got a pair of top-three efforts from Bailey Harris and Pampaloni. Harris captured second on beam with a 7.350 while Pampaloni claimed third in the event with a 6.8.
