Trio of double winners leads HNHS swimgirls to big win

A trio of double winners led the Huntington North High School girls’ swim to a big 122-50 win over host Marion on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

Laney Shaw, Allie Aschliman and Macy Lange each won two individual events on the evening and Shaw and Lange also were on two winning relay teams. Aschliman also had a hand in a relay victory.

The Lady Vikes won every event expect for the diving, in which they didn’t compete.

The aforementioned trio combined with Alayna Stroup to kick off the big  night by capturing the 200-yard medley relay, in 2:13.98.  Shaw then led teammate Alyssa Brinkman across the line in the 200-yard freestyle, winning in 2:18.96, before Aschliman led Stroup across the line in the 200-yard individual medley, winning in 2:33.96. Lange got her first win in the 50-yard freestyle, winning in :29.04 with Anna Manry taking third, before Shaw led a three-person sweep in the 100-yard butterfly, winning in 1:16.27 with only teammates Bekah Bruner in second place and Adalyn Harvey in third as the other swimmers.

Stroup then took the 100-yard freestyle, in 1:08.07, before Aschliman and Morgan Cogar went 1-2 in the 500-yard freestyle, with Aschliman winning in 6:20.22. Shaw, Brinkman, Lange and Stroup teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay, in 2:03.63 before Brinkman led Brunner across the finish line in the 100-yard backstroke, winning in 1:16.02.

Lange then took the 100-yard breaststroke, in 1:22.65, with Jule Nogaj taking third, and the Lady Vikings wrapped things up by going 1-2 in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with the team of Brunner, Nogaj, Sara Lacey and Manry wining in 4:08.04.
