Powerful Homestead gymnasts down Lady Vikes

The Huntington North High School gymnastics team lost to a powerful visiting Homestead squad on Thursday, Feb. 1, 106.175-100.500.

Homestead took top honors on every apparatus and all-around, and the best the Lady Vikings could do was a pair of second place finishes. Laora Pampaloni scored an 8.750 for runner-up in the vault, and Aleah Eckert received a 9.325 for second on the floor exercise.

The Lady Vikes best event of the day was the floor ex, with Pampaloni added a fourth with a 9.200 and Danielle Korporal getting fifth with a 9.075 for a team score of 27.600, still below Homestead’s mark of 27.725.

The Lady Vikes just barely got edged out on the vault, 25.950-25.450. Korporal scored an 8.450 for fourth place and Morgan Reimer had an 8.250 for sixth.

Sarah Malone finished third with a score of 8.900 to lead the Lady Vikes’ effort on the balance beam. Korporal led on the uneven parallel bars with a fourth place score of 8.100.

Homestead’s Catherine Milne swept all four events and took all-around honors as well. She tallied a 9.050 on the vault, a 9.600 on the bars, a 9.150 on beam and a 9.425 on the floor for an all-around tally of 37.225.
