Wildcats get big revenge on Foresters

Host Indiana Wesleyan avenged an earlier loss to the Huntington University men’s basketball team with a 100-73 beating on Saturday, Feb. 3.

The Foresters, dropping to 10-16 overall and 6-8 in Crossroads League play, were down by 12 at the half at 45-33, before the eighth-ranked Wildcats dropped 55 more points on them in the second half.

Tyler Arens scored 21 points in just under 21 minutes of play off the bench to lead the Foresters. Zach Owens came off the HU bench with 17 more points, and Konner Platt put up 11 points.

The Wildcats, 20-6 overall and 11-3 in the Crossroads League, had a trio of 20-point scorers on the afternoon. Canaan Coffey topped all scorers with 22 points, Evan Maxwell notched 21 and Kyle Mangas tossed in 20. Ben Carlson added 12 points and combined that with 11 rebounds for a double-double.

The Foresters hit 30 of 58 shots from the field for 51.7 percent but were dreadful at the free-throw line with just five successes in 15 shots for 33.3 percent. The Wildcats hit 35 of 60 from the field for 58.3 percent and added 21 of 29 from the foul stripe for 72.4 percent.

Devon Merder led HU on the boards with 11 rebounds, but HU lost that battle, too, 35-28.

Mike Bush led in assists with four.
