Mike Bush drained a long three-pointer just ahead of the buzzer in overtime to give the Huntington University men’s basketball team a 102-99 win over host Taylor University on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

Bush tallied a game-high 31 points as HU improved to 12-17 on the season, 8-9 in the Crossroads League.

Trevor Lockwood and Konner Platt each tallied 28 points for HU in a game that seemed won in regulation after Bush hit a layup to put HU up 90-83 with just 44 seconds left. But a pair of Taylor two-pointers and a three-pointer around four missed HU free throws knotted the game at 90-90 and sent it into overtime.

Devon Merder hit his only three-pointer of the night to put HU up 99-95 with a 1:30 remaining in the overtime, but Taylor wasn’t done, scoring four straight points to equalize the score before Bush made the Foresters 3 for 3 in OT games this season.

Lockwood hit 13 of 17 shots from the field for the biggest scoring night of his career, and the 6-8 senior made it a double-double with a career-high 12 rebounds. He also had four blocks on the evening.

Bush added 12 assists for a double-double as well.

Merder added 11 points on the night for HU.

Jake Heggeland led Taylor with 28 points. Ryan Robinson added 23 points and Mason Degenkolb threw in 19.

Tyler Arens, who had an 0-for shooting night, made his presence felt for HU with 11 boards.

HU hit 37 of 79 shots from the field for 46.8 percent and added a 20 of 31 free throw shooting effort for 64.5 percent. Taylor hit 35 of 78 shots from the field for 44.9 percent and added 20 successes in 27 tries at the free-throw line for 74.1 percent.
