HU wins regular season finale

Konner Platt had a second-straight 28-point effort to lead the Huntington University men’s basketball team to a 95-87 win over visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Saturday, Feb. 17, in the Foresters regular-season finale.

Winning for the seventh time in their last 10 games, the Foresters built a 42-28 halftime advantage and hung on to improve to 17-13 overall and 9-9 in Crossroads League play.

Platt nailed 10 of 13 shots from the field and added 4 of 6 from the free-throw line for his second consecutive 28-point effort.

Tyler Arens backed up Platt with 25 points and nine rebounds. Mike Bush logged 18 points and 13 assists for his four straight double-double as he leads the nation in assists at 8.5 per game.

Devon Merder added 11 points and three steals in the final regular season home game of his career.

The Foresters hit 34 of 60 shots from the field for 56.7 percent, including a 15 of 26, 57.7 percent mark from beyond the arc. They hit 12 of 19 free throws for 63.2 percent.

The Cougars were led by Brett Vipperman with 26 points, 20 coming in the second half. Jevon Knox and Austin Jones came off the MVNU bench with 19 and 15 points, respectively, and Jacob Paul added 14 points.

The Cougars hit 34 of 73 shots from the field for 46.6 percent and were perfect in nine chances at the free-throw line for 100 percent.
